Incentives

The Development Authority of Butts County, in conjunction with the State of Georgia, can put together an attractive incentives package for industries considering a location here. Including state programs, Butts County offers:

  • Pre-employment training using industry-specific certificate programs administered through Southern Crescent Technical College
  • Available land at low cost
  • Access via two interchanges off Interstate 75
  • Local tax assistance and tax abatement schedules through the Development Authority of Butts County
  • Businesses which invest in Butts County and create at least 10 net new jobs can receive a $3,000 per job credit due to the county's Tier 2 economic designation. Tier 2 communities are eligible to credit 100% of their tax liability in a given year for a period of five years. The job credits may be carried forward for up to 10 years. Additional job tax credits can be earned for making large shipments out of Georgia via Georgia's Port Tax Credit Bonus for qualified companies.
  • 100% Freeport Exemption for work in process, raw materials and finished goods destined to be shipped out of state, as well as goods stored in Butts County destined to be shipped directly to consumers (e-commerce)
  • Industrial Revenue Bond Financing (IRB) available through the Development Authority of Butts County

Taxes

Industries that locate in Butts County benefit from Georgia’s low corporate tax rate of 5.75%; the single factor apportionment formula applies the corporate tax rate only to gross receipts or sales in Georgia, significantly reducing the tax rate of Butts County companies with substantial sales to customers outside of Georgia.

Taxes on real estate and tangible personal property are levied by Butts County, the Butts County Hospital Authority and the Butts County School District. The tax rates are set annually, but do not significantly change from year to year. All properties are assessed at 40% of fair market value. The cities of Jackson, Flovilla and Jenkinsburg do not levy property taxes.
